把白说成黑 把白说成黑 = The mass media. I agree that Straits Times is Singapore's most objective newspaper. Compare it with Chinese newspapers, ST makes a better effort at striking a balance in telling stories. But this doesn't mean I like the ST reporters and the way they write the stories. People say that the paparazzi is the type of reporters that cannot be tolerated. I'd say, not just them, but all reporters that are guilty of using "striking a balance" as an excuse to come out with sensational viewpoints that may or may not be true. Therefore, they are STORIES rather than absolute truth. What I really dislike about ST is their justification of using "Oh, it is important to strike a balance in our reports" so when things are actually not so bad as it is, suddenly you see they write a story to show "the other side" because "OH, we need to strike a balance". Then people start to question, start to doubt when initially, it was peaceful. I believe in conclusive and responsible writing. When you write an essay or a thesis, indeed you give both sides viewpoints to show you have weighed and considered them both. BUT, at the end, you will CONCLUDE. That's something the media doesn't do! They leave readers to make their own guesses, in the name of "we strike the balance by reporting both sides. decision is up to reader to make for themselves. we r educating the audience by exposing them to the other side of the story you know". Wah. sound very logical right? You see, the media is very smart. Or rather, the people working for the newspapers are very smart. They are salaried workers, they are PAID to write stories. If they don't present a story that catches the interest of readers, readership level will drop. Even if it means the need to sensationalize in order to retain their position, they will do it. No matter how reputable the newspaper is. You tell me to understand their position, I can only sympathize them bcoz I can identify with the pressure to keep a job in difficult times, but I will NOT approve of their motivations. I believe in education and encouragement. That even as newspapers, they should bring about TRUE education and TRUE encouragement. This is why I 100% support the emergence of CityNews weekly. It's not about attaching a religious nature to a newspaper. Newspapers regardless, should be irreligiously educational and encouraging. It is challenging, but it can be done. CityNews will lead the way, I believe with all my heart. There is no point in retaliating especially if you know your conscience is clear. Skeptics are still going to be skeptics. Truthfully, I can't be bothered anymore. I just know it in my heart (and now, in my head too as I have been recently equipped with the true facts) that City Harvest has NEVER been questioned by the Commissioner of Charities. That is one big mistake in the media report which the journalists covering this report will NEVER admit to. THE Commissioner of Charities has questioned City Harvest Church (CHC) about its $310 million stake in Suntec Singapore. Sim M, Teo E, and Feng Y. 2010, March 20. The Straits Times. City Harvest questioned. Retrieved: 26 March, 2010As to other doubts raised by skeptics, I won't bother to try to clarify them. Skeptics will be skeptics no matter what. Just let them talk all they want. Use lips move up and down only what. I also know how to talk all day right? I'm actually very good at it if I get down to try it, you know. My question to the talkers: Ultimately, who is making a difference FOR society to make this place a better place? The talkers or the walkers? Go figure and do something more constructive than posting comments behind the screen, and thinking by doing that you're going to help make society progress. Just wanna say it in my blog, my space, my life - I'm not going to let the devil steal my joy. Don't let him steal yours too. Labels: contemplative 12:49 AM
