1st Jan, 2010 [01/01/10]

I stopped watching my Korean Drama to blog now that we're nearing 12am of 1st Jan, 2010. Woohoo will we write our dates correctly? =p Seems like a bit of practising and mistakes r always needed before I start writing them right. Haha.

Anyway, countdowns to me is more of a religious ritual than anything else...doesn't mean much just like birthdays. It's the people I'm with, the significance of me celebrating that makes it special. =) Tonight at 12am, I'm going to spend my time packing for my Genting trip with family and I think that is significant because I got a feeling I will REALLY enjoy this trip. It's not somewhere exotic or jaw-dropping, but somehow I'm really excited about this trip. =D We haven't gone away from Singapore as a family of four for YEARS. And to top it all up, this trip involved 9 other relatives. =)) Ain't it cool?

What's your vision for 2010? Are you ready to begin working towards that Vision? =)

I am!

RT @arbernard Life can become complicated. It is your challenge to keep it simple!

This brings to remembrance one of the revelations I shared on my blog about 1 month ago. =) Just like how we organize study notes to make the contents more digestable to be remembered, or how we got to chew our food and break it down before our body can digest the nutrients. Life needs to be broken down and digested before we could get anything out of it. If we don't, we find ourselves unable to cope with certain stresses and complications arising out of this life which we're living. Some people don't know how to do this, while others simply refuse to keep things simple, for the 1001 reasons (excuses).

We are not very clever creatures if we compare ourselves to our Creator. So let's not take in more than what we are capable of. =) We are here to learn; to be shaped and refined. I realize how important the acceptance of that reality is to me. I'm here to learn, and to do so step-by-step...to have a vision, but at the same time working my way towards it in concrete steps.

I want to treasure & I want to appreciate. I want to thank & I want to honor. I want to give praises when they are due, & I want to give encouragement to those who are hanging to a cause that's worthy. Life? Keep it simple. Do what is right. Be honest to others and yourself no matter what.

Praying hard! I will not drop the ball...keep believing, keep fighting. God is on my side!

====================

It's easier to raise up that much needed spiritual confidence when I realize God is on MY side. I mean seriously, that's probably my 2010 revelation from God. Of course the reverse has to be true first. I got to be on God's side first. Haha.

At Dad's Clinic now. Thank God for internet. A surprisingly lazy morning hehe. I had time to visit Jaeson Ma's blog, which he wrote many interesting blog entries. www.jaesonma.com his blog is a blessing to every single person who is on the ball with God.

Jaeson Ma is a Pastor to many celebrities and popstars in the entertainment industry, mainly in South Korea and Taiwan but increasingly so in Hollywood too. Vanness Wu, Tiffany from SNSD, Siwon from Super Junior, Jin the rapper are all under his discipleship. He has a very clear message & mission from God, and God has been moving through him to bring many of them to Christ and FOR Christ.

His latest blog entry about Re-focusing reminded me that doing things for God and living a life like God are two separate things. One speaks to your gifting, the other speaks to your character. He went on to mention that if he were to die either as a man of gifting as opposed to a man of character, he would choose the latter.

I want to be a woman of character.

To summarize my 2010 resolution:
1) To be a woman of godly character
2) To focus
3) To keep fighting for what I believe

When "tired" becomes "tirelessly"

When I am tired for all the wrong reasons, I FEEL the tiredness and let it sink in. But when I am tired for the right reasons, it is the total opposite. That's when I go the extra mile in spite of being tired. Also means "tirelessly".

I wanna thank God for everything He has blessed me with this year - my Birthday, my Christmas, my results for this semester, and a whole lot of intangible stuff - revelations, friendships, courage, inspiration, knowledge.

I am officially on the ball with others who say they are looking forward to 2010, who sense that next year is going to be really awesome, a breakthrough year. Things are picking up and getting better; not yet where I hope to arrive, but definitely getting there.

Spiritually
1. Pray more
2. Fast more
3. Step out more
4. Know the WOG more (Go for weekday BS classes too)

Mentally
5. More disciplined
6. Greater diligence in everything I focus in

Financially
7. Save more, hurhurhur
8. Fulfill my personal commitment to building fund

Health
9. Gain 2kg (to achieve average of 46kg)
10. Run 10km by February
11. Run half marathon by July

Others
12. Get driving license by the end of year LATEST
13. Find a job that fits the career path I want to go on
14. Prepare for Grade 8 Violin on Feb/Mar 2011

In my heart I always want to go back and be part of TMO ministry...but somehow time does not work out for me, and as much as that is what I like to do, I have a sensing that's not what God wants me to do right now because of the other priorities at hand. But one day someday, I hope to go back and be with TMO. I REALLY REALLY DO. Trust me.

My blog layout is seriously functioning weirdly in Firefox browser. I'm beginning to return back to Firefox hoping it can delay damage to my computer compared to IE.

MERRY CHRISTMAS: 2009~
I just wanna say my Christmas has been well spent; it has been busy with a purpose and that made me feel really good. I also wanna thank God for improvement in my school results which was out on Dec 22nd, but I always thought it would be Dec 26th. Haha. I checked it yesterday.

I got a feelin~
That tonight-will-be-a-good-night~
Woohoo! ;)

I thank God that He helped me end 2009 strong...I have never expected it to. But with great success comes great responsibility, so I am in the midst of being 100% mentally prepared for the works of sowing in the coming year. I thank God for Focus. I need to focus, and just be who I am - the Enling who has grown up and still is - growing.

I know God has preplanned the areas of growth I would be subjected into in time to come...I just wanna be on the ever-ready mode.

Prayer changes nations, individuals, facts, mindsets, hearts...God is good. =)

CHC 2009 Thanksgiving + Loving Sun

1. On the major breakthrough, the door would open wide for all others to breakthrough as well.
2. The building will be in the marketplace, for the marketplace, to penetrate the marketplace. It will come (by God's timing) - 2011.
3. Asia Conference 2010's gonna be a blast and a prep before exciting things begin to happen.
4. Loving people...there's a lot more I can do. So much more.
5. Dress the way you like, and whatever - as long as spiritual foundation of bible reading, ministry, tithing, cell group, prayer meeting, personal prayer life is strong, and you keep to the 10 commandments.

I always thought statements like "it is a privilege to know Sun", "Sun is the only friend you will need" are cliches spoken in church by the church pioneers. But tonight, at the long-in-hiatus Churchwide thanksgiving night, I came to realize they are not cliches but really there's no other way to describe it anymore. Testimonies upon testimonies...every person & every church staff has a story to tell...and in every story, Sun and Pastor Kong played a very significant part of it.

I have come to regret so much not being in church during those times when Sun was still serving as a worship leader and a mentor in church...that would be the year 2002 and earlier. I really think she is the best role model for any woman...and to me as a member of this church, she would be the best person I can look up to in every aspect of my life.

Yet I believe in God's appointment....and I trust He will bring me to be molded whether or not I know Sun in person...or whether or not I have a role model whom I can entirely look up to in the same level as Sun. Jesus Christ is my ultimate role model. Though someone whom I can witness with my natural senses would probably bring instant conviction and inspiration (like if Sun is someone I know personally, for example), but that would be the faith of Thomas (ie. seeing is the only way to believe). So still, the key is to keep on keeping on even if that isn't happening...that is faith in action. For me as of now.

I really enjoyed thanksgiving night today. I am more than honored to be part of the event, to be inspired by knowing the "true Sun", well, perhaps knowing 50% more than what I did in the past about her. When we look up to Sun as church members, most do it because (1) She is Pastor's wife, and we honor her for that (2) Her humanitarian efforts all over Asia = undeniable and really touching (3) Her contribution to the church and the local community is evident, even if she isn't here in person but the social organizations set up are running very well by others that it has been entrusted to. (4) She is doing everything the Lord has called her with right now, a great and amazing woman of God.

But now after the thanksgiving, things are quite different for me. I don't just see her as THAT....but I see her as who she is as a PERSON - her character, efforts, her love that many church pioneers talk about but we the later generation peeps can only hear about. The event is truly an eyeopener of true people sharing true emotions, true love and sincerity. I believe nobody left the place with dry faces. All 2,400 of us tonight.

It is so memorable...and so special for me. And to every single person in that auditorium of our miracle building at Jurong West. Especially so for Sun, who may not be coming back to Singapore for the next 2 to 3 years. She is cherishing her time here in Singapore, so are we. Seeing her song-lead in worship on stage is a personal dream-come-true. I will never ever forget that moment for my lifetime. At least until Sun comes back again! Hehe.

Pastor Kong and Sun have impacted so many lives, including mine. No Pastor and no Sun = No US. I am so proud to be in this church. This church is THE standard. To me...it really is. It makes me want to walk right, and do so much more for God. And I pray God will implant this desire deep into my heart so that I will never forget this feeling, this thought, this spiritual dissatisfication which is so much in me right now.

FIR's 5th Album - "LET'S SMILE"

Some of the songs are out already! Dec 25th, Christmas Day, is their Album launch! Woohoo!
I have to listen to the whole album when I get it before I give a review to their Album, but so far I am liking it quite alot! The only 美中不足would be Faye's pronounciation for the English lyrics. If she could nail it a bit more, I think it would sound fantastic.

1st Release 1 month back: "We Are"

2nd Single: 讓我們一起微笑吧
(Known as 彩色羽翼 in New Life Church Faith Map album - The music arrangement differ, not just the change in Title =))

3rd Release: 紀念日 - Sounding DOPE!! Love how they still retain some element of FIR from their 1st, 2nd and 3rd albums.

4th Single: 向日葵盛開的夏天 - The hook is 吊!

Introducing the Song: Replay
Artiste: SHINee, K-pop group

Don't need to watch the MV...just play and listen to the music. I love the R&B! But here, I purposely post the piano version first. Sounds melodramatic and nice. =)

Here's the official MV and song below. I must say, Korea artists are getting more talented at a YOUNGER age. You know what that means? Maybe 10 years down the road, we will have BABIES as idols! Lol. The guys are super duper young can! I can't believe it. 14 to 18 years old. Who can fight with Koreans in terms of potential & competitiveness? Sigh...not even American artists.

I must say, this group has strong unique vocals, they are YOUNG, they can dance. They can do everything. But too sissy for my liking. Heh.

Wee I'm heading to Genting Highlands on Jan 1, 2010. DON'T ASK ME TO GET ANYTHING COZ I'M REALLY BROKE. Haha!

But if there's really anything you want from there that's NOT available elsewhere (I can't think of any though), then yes - I'll do you the service. =)

I'll be heading with 13 relatives which makes it so so so fun! The last time I went there was like 2 or 3 years ago with Cheryl and the gang. And met up with Esther and HZ there. Which was really fun! =) Great memories.

I've got my itinerary planned! Subject to last minute changes.
Day 1: BASKIN ROBBINS, walk around outside, shopping inside, foot reflexology, maybe nails [depends on how cheap]
Day 2: Games Day! K-boxing, Bowling, Archery, Pool, Arcade, visit Casino, watch movie
Day 3: Finish shopping & leave place

Got to do module bidding over there still. Hope I can find good steals over there with discounts at clothes and cosmetics outlets. Otherwise I wouldn't be buying back anything that cost the same as if I purchase in Singapore.

And did you realize the theme park is totally out of the plan? ;p Finally I have outgrown theme parks! OR should I say, the Genting theme park is no longer attractive now that the Sentosa IR is up! Yeah!!!

Sistic probed for abuse

I KNEW SUCH A DAY WOULD COME FOR SISTIC. Just why didn't it come EARLIER? Isn't it very obvious since day 1 that Sistic is really anti-competitive? Sigh. Better late than never I guess...well, hope something good comes out of this probe.

Let me be childish one more time...ahahahaha.

SO CUTE!!! Focus on the kid with GREEN pants. He is the best dancer, he got all the dance steps right and very steady!

This kid looks cute too. I think he is the kid version of Goo Jun Pyo (F4's lead man)

Now now now...the best of all...

MORE OF 2PM

Wee. My Friend's getting me 2PM's album and Tasha Reid's Album coz she's going back to Korea. I'm so blesseD!

I finally know why I like 2PM out of all the other boybands.

1) They are real
2) They are funny
3) They don't pretend to be like comic/anime boys which most Korean Boybands do (which appeals more to female fans & kinda sissy after a while) but they are themselves. And their range of fans is wide because of that (guys like them too coz their dance moves are sick)
4) They have the charm of both hip hop style and a little "idolish". So there you have the perfect formula.

Too bad even then, bad things happen to good people. The leader, Jaebom, left Korea and the group indefinitely due to a myspace comment he made about hating Korea like 4 years ago when he was still a young trainee in JYPE. I personally find that really saddening coz it's not like he's hating Korea now. And to be so unforgiving towards something that has already been history doesn't reflect very well on the Koreans who criticized him and wanted him out.

Anyways, this programme below was shot 1 or 2 months before that happened. Happier times then! Super funny group of people. Storyline: Members needed to succeed doing 100 actions to irritate and bully Taecyon, without him realizing it. If they fail, they have to be under Taec's command instead.

And the next video below: My favorite member Chansung! Haha. He acted before his debut as a singer.

In the video, his respect for the guy who saved him turned into admiration LOL. They used to be enemies in school until this happened. To the point of visiting his family and his family actually like him! Haha. He is so good with expressions! =D

Title of Drama: Unstoppable High Kick

Then this happened when he overstayed his welcome...he basically ate and lived in his savior's house everyday. Punishment from the grandpa who thinks he needed to know his place! Funny.

Last of all, take a look at a really dope dance act by JYP himself! He's the king man. Totally understand why WG and 2PM can dance so well. By the way, he is nearing 40. 40.

The reason I'm blogging all at one go is coz I think I'm so childish. Wahahaha. It's better to compress all my interesting findings in ONE entry. Fancy liking Korean pop only at this age. Late bloomer i guess. Hahhaa.

K-Pop Music Culture and Industry

The past few weeks, I have been immersing myself in K-pop and K-dramas. I call it my "Unofficial Korea pop cultural immersion programme". Haha. Seriously, I have been googling loads of information with an unusually extreme hunger. I wonder why am I not studying Mass Comm?! O.o This could be a very interesting FYP topic! Smth like "Analysis of Korean Pop Music Culture and Industry".Good talent agencies are very important. JYP Entertainment is my personal choice. I think Park Ji Young (JYP) is a genius and a good example to follow. He himself is a singer, but he is on the lookout for more talents not just in Korea but holding auditions all over the world. This man has ambition!

1. Wonder Girls

JYPE adopts a "family" concept. Every artiste in this talent agency is as close as family. I think that's awesome. I remember watching MTV Iggy's, when WG performed live, and the host interviewed JYP.

Q: What do you look out for when you are choosing someone who is an aspiring singer?

JYP's Ans: Of course talent is important, but I believe that passion is more important. I have seen many talented young people who tried to make it big, but they failed in the end because of the lack of determination and perseverance. Like Sun Ye from Wonder Girls, she has been training for 6 years before she debuted as the Wonder Girls. Just training alone. To succeed, you must be really hardworking.

Wow. This guy teaches core values to his JYP kids. I think that's awesome. Because...success can come in two methods. First would be step-by-step. Second would be just based on something that appeals to people (more like chance?) and hope you would strike it rich. I think the 1st method has greater sustainability in that measure of success. And I think that's what JYP always had in mind for his company & the JYP kids. Which is great! Unlike some agencies around (I am sure there are) that simply uses artistes to earn more $. Exploitation happens alot in the entertainment industry.

Getting to the top is easy compared to STAYING at the top.

This coupled with JYP's acute sensing of what people love to see in music and entertainment, produced not just the success of WG, but also a boyband group called 2PM.

2. 2PM

CAN YOU SEE/FEEL THE ENERGY?? Goodness they are awesome. Every single member from 2pm can dance superbly (& sing in tune at the same time) unlike any other boybands I've seen. Seriously. Okay, maybe Energy from Taiwan...but they have long been in history. And if you know about Energy, their failure was precisely contractual conflict with the agency managing them. Which reinforces the fact that having a good agency is very important.

JYP Entertainment abolishes “slave contracts”

"JYP Entertainment, who currently has the Wonder Girls, 2PM, etc artistes under its charge has announced on the 26th, that it will adopt the standard contract protocol set by the Korea Fair Trade Commission. They will thus become the first management agency in Korea to abolish what many has come to know as "slavery contracts".

The term "slavery contracts" are basically contracts signed by artistes where the terms mainly interferes with their personal life, infringing their human rights and weren't really beneficial to them. Despite that, it is quite a normal practice in the industry because it's somewhat a culture that has lasted for many years. Trainees who have hopes of making it big, have to agree to these terms because they have no other choice.

But despite being singled out by the Korea Fair Trade Commission many times since late 2008, many management agencies have persisted with the practice. Although some did modify the contract terms after getting several warnings, it did not really help since the whole "slavery contracts" were still in place.

But JYP Entertainment has now taken the first step to rooting out this unnecessary evil in the industry by adopting the new contact protocol, which will see the contract length shortened, ratio of earnings changing according to market value, artistes able to decide their own schedules, etc terms that will better safeguard artistes rights.

A representative from the Korea Fair Trade Commission expressed that, with the huge influence that JYP Entertainment wields in the industry, they have high hopes it will help to set a good foundation and example for other management agencies to follow in future."

Source: http://www.allkpop.com/index.php/full_story/jyp_entertainment_abolishes_slavery_contracts/

Cheers to passion. Passion > talent.

Point #2: JYPE do not just groom their talents to be good singers, but have a good grasp of stage presence, which makes them a true entertainer, being all-rounders. And people like to be visually stimulated, not just auditorily as in hearing the singing voice.

Cheers to their English! Weee.

Nature Republic @ http://nature-republic.com/index.jsp

Much of the information on the website are still in Korean...guess that's how new the brand is.

It has opened its doors at 313 Somerset, which is its 2nd branch in Singapore. =) T3 brought me there on Sunday and introduced this brand to me. I think I'm getting to like this brand much! It's endorsed by RAIN, and is relatively new in Singapore. The first branch is in Bishan J8. Hope to see more of it sprouting around Singapore, ideally AMK coz I live there. Hehe. But Bishan's convenient too!

Anyway, I bought quite alot of stuff until I became a member of it! =x

I like the shop because:
1) Cheap compared to the Face Shop, Etude House, Skin Food, etc.
2) Nice classic packaging and not excessively cute
3) It sells everything from top to bottom for your body
4) Salesperson is VERY friendly & knowledgeable about the products they r selling!
5) Asian product suits asian skin best. Duh? =)
6) Its emphasis on NATURE in its product. Though alot of other products do that too haha.

Some of the stuffs I got from there:
UV Lock Sun Balm SPF 50+ PA+++(Violet) - This is their star product.
Foot Mask - 1 sheet just to try its effectiveness
Cream mask
Makeup spot remover - this is such a brilliant invention!
Lip gloss
Deodorant Foot Spray

And so...I got a free Lipgloss (Real) handphone accessory + Sheet mask. There are also a few other products I would love to try actually, but not necessary for my usage now.

Something that a friend mentioned recently strengthened my conviction on this topic.

For many people in the church, maybe this year is the season whereby it is their time to get attached. But for me (& also for her too hence this comment she made), it may not be due yet in God's planning schedule.

The church has been encouraging people to get attached, and people ARE getting attached by the tens of hundreds in 2009! To the point that it is a little bit overwhelming...around me, I witnessed some godly attachments, but there are also certainly some unwise ones...but in the midst of all these, where do I stand in God's planning schedule? When is my time?

I think it is very important that we are not rushing God, that's number one. If it isn't the ripe season yet, it will never work out without God's blessing in the relationship.

Secondly, it is very important to know for yourself, what God is speaking to you in this aspect of your life. Indeed, the church may be on this movement, so people around are getting attached at a faster pace, and conversations are often revolving around this topic. It seems like it has become part of our church culture lol! But it is so important to heed the voice of God, and even place it above the voice of your Pastor, close friend or CGL.

I'm not saying that we should become disobedient towards our spiritual authorities. Just that we must exercise wisdom and discernment. Not everything we learn from a preaching applies to us right NOW. It maybe meant for us to keep in in our hearts, until the right person appears.

It takes maturity and determination to stand strong in the midst of a seemingly "church culture". Haha. It really does because we can be tempted time and again to take the shortcut. But end up settling for something short of the will of God. Which won't last, of course. =\

There is added pressure too from family members, and other well meaning friends...and they aren't always helpful. =p Because it will be a challenge to convince that person WHY you are not getting attached, since it is something that's between you and God and sometimes, not even a fellow Christian may be able to fully understand your position.

Hence, my prayer would be to keep my foundation in the Lord strong...not compromising my standards, but instead benchmarking it against God's standards. And wait. =) And with all my heart pray for that person to become the person God has wanted him to become...so that when we meet, we are ready for each other. So meanwhile, I'm gonna make sure I am moulded into a better person from inside out! =)

Watch from 3:45 to 6:00 minutes. HILARIOUS OK!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24dT4JSzYIg

This guy has a cool personality in the drama, who is the lead singer of a band. But when he went to the countryside, he started being weird, enjoying himself in the field of grass. But ended up being chased by a pig....super LOL.

Title of Drama: You're Beautiful (You're Handsome)

My ratings: 4.5/5 stars! Must watch! It's not sappy love story. It's SUPER FUNNY but in a natural way.
